Hooray!! My dad is back from Kabul safe and sound. He sounded tired as hell this morning, but I suppose that's to be expected after a month of working 18 hour days in what is easily one of the most dangerous places on earth right now. Unfortunately, he did such a good job as Acting Mission Director, that they've offered him a one year post as Mission Director for Afghanistan. It's a scary proposition to say the least, but if no one else steps up to take the position, I suspect he'll agree to do it out of a sense of duty. But at least he's home for now and I'll get to see him over fall break before he potentially moves to Kabul for a whole year.
