All this socializing is wearing me out! We had a second Thanksgiving a couple weeks back with some of Emily's friends from work, or perhaps it was an early Christmas, we could never decide which. Then Emily's office party was the week after that, and afterward we went to go see the national christmas tree displays on the ellipse before we decided that it was too damn cold to be outside. This past weekend we had dinner with my family and some of our family friends on Saturday, and then dinner with Laura and Greg and the twins on Sunday. Those kiddos are getting big fast! Last night we had dinner with Meg and her boyfriend and one of her other friends from high school and her husband at Rio Grande. Mmmm. Today I had lunch with Mike from GD to discuss, um, nothing of any importance whatsoever, we swear. Tomorrow we'll be probably stopping by my parents' again for some dinner and to see Bobby's family, then we're going to church. Christmas Day I intend to spend being as lazy as possible and seeing as few people besides my wife as possible. Our intent this year is to establish some of our own holiday traditions, since this is our first Christmas together as a married couple. Then our Friday, I'm planning to work, and then we're having dinner with family friends. The following week we'll be mostly in the ATL for the Peach Bowl, so we'll be seeing Brian and Tim and Margaret, and possibly Darren and uncle David. I'm also trying to work out a way to see Jennifer and Sam and aunt Lynda in Charlotte on the way home. Then we're in the clear for 2 weeks until my office holiday party. Hopefully that's enough time to recooperate and recharge!

Apparently, a bearcat is a real animal. All these years I just assumed it was an ungodly amalgam of a killing machine (like a grizzly bear with a chainsaw) concocted by Cincy.

I met a vice admiral at work today. He was taking a tour of the Lockheed facility , but stopped by my workstation to see how the results of the testing in NUWC a couple weeks ago were looking. Apparently he's involved with the new towed array approval board somehow.

My poor neglected blog...

Emily and I had a fabulous time in London over Thanksgiving. Photos are on Facebook if you haven't seen them. Here and here. We did all the typical touristy stuff: Big Ben/Parliament, Westminister Abbey, changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, the British Museum, the Tate Modern, the Tower of London, tea, scones and clotted cream at Harrod's, the Greenwich observatory and Prime Meridian, and Borough Market. We walked or took the Tube pretty much everywhere and armed with our A-to-Zed, we only went the wrong direction once. I think we saw almost everything we had planned to see, and did everything we planned to do. I am a bit disappointed that during our entire week, not once did we have fish and chips or bangers and mash. But we did discover brown sauce, and we (well, I didn't actually help much) put on a lavish Thanksgiving feast for 9 people using a kitchen meant for 1 person and without the aid of most modern kitchen features. The turkey we got from the fresh market even had a few feathers left in it! The weather cooperated most of the time we were there. I mean, it was cold, damp, and overcast (so, London), but we only really got rained on once, and I was only uncomfortably cold once, so I consider that pretty successful. Next time we go to London, I hope we can do some other things outside of the downtown area, like maybe heading out to Stonehenge or Stratford-upon-Avon.

Last week I spent most of my time in Newport, RI on a business trip that was fairly successful (for me). The thing we were testing turned out to have a massive failing that's going to have a lot of ripple effects in the community. The guy who sold the Navy on this entire scheme has got to be feeling his seat roasting right about now because he got them to go down this road without any evidence or testing to back up the decision. Idiot. It'll be interesting to see what happens when he presents the findings of this testing to the Captain. I hope I get invited to the meeting so I can see him get drawn and quartered as he grasps at straws to defend himself.

We got our Christmas tree set up last weekend and it's beginning to feel like the holidays around here. After some initial panic (like last year), I think I'm basically done with my shopping, just waiting for a few items to arrive still. Christmas seems to sneak up on me more and more every year. Maybe that's what happens when you get older.

GTDC Flag Football lost our opening game of the tournament in a poorly played and ever more poorly officiated game. Emily's decided that she's not playing next season if we have the same coaches again, and I can't blame here. I sort of feel the same way. It's fun, but only to a point. I feel like I'm putting more work into something that I'm not getting enough reward back from to have to put up with the kind of crap that we do. Oh well.

In more positive news, GT varsity football's great season got rewarded with a trip to the Peach Bowl against defending National Champion LSU. I think it's a great matchup and one we have a strong chance of winning. So Emily and I got tickets and will be meeting up with Brian and whoever else is coming to the game, so we can spend New Year's Eve cheering in 2009 with a 10-win Yellow Jackets season.
