So I'm back from Savannah. I said goodbye to Emily this afternoon until July 5. Well, I'll get to talk to her while she's in Brussels, but I won't get to see her (at the earliest) until then. And actually, I don't think "goodbye" ever left my mouth today. Which is a testament to how much better today went than 2 weeks ago at my graduation party. Today really felt like "have a great time and I'll see you soon" instead of "goodbye" and that's a very comforting thing :) Not that I didn't cry (which turned out to be good too; my sinuses haven't felt this clear in months), but it was a much happier way for us to part than being torn apart by her parents. It's also the reason I left today instead of going to the airport to see her off tomorrow. Having a deadline of when all the "I love yous" and "I'll miss yous" need to be said makes it really hard. Today I had nowhere to be and no time I had to be there, so if we needed to stand outside holding each other for half an hour in the sun that had just peeked out from behind storm clouds, we could do so. No one was going to push her through security and out of my arms.
Anyway, we had a great extended weekend together. We went to the beach one day and took a nice walk to the end of the island. We watched The Princess Bride at an outdoor screening one evening. We wandered around downtown Savannah a little bit and finally made it to the colonial cemetery with graves dating back to the 18th century. To continue the deathly trend, we took a ghost tour (hosted by an overly perky girl named Coral who claimed to be Unsolved Mysteries' Robert Stack's niece and drank Starbucks) which was a lot of fun wandering through the old Savannah squares hearing about all the dead people who supposedly haunt their old houses. We also were treated to dinner at Bella's by Emily's parents. Mmmmm. Otherwise, we just had a nice relaxing weekend together spending lots of time cuddled up on the couch. It was exactly what we both needed before being separated by the Atlantic Ocean.
I'm still sad that she's leaving, but I know she'll be having such a fantastic time gallivanting around Europe while I stay here to hunt for a job. And 6.5 weeks isn't really that long, right? As long as I stay busy, it will just fly by, and before I know it, Emily will be back in my arms. :) In case I haven't made it abundantly clear over the past several months (and for those of you who haven't pointed out how uncharacteristically happy I seem these days), I am so in love with this girl.
